Technical File construction

We help companies who manufacture or import gas appliances that fall under the essential requirements of the European Gas Appliance Directive [or GAD – Ref No: 90/396/EEC] and the European Boiler Efficiency Directive [or BED Ref No: – 92/42/EEC as amended by 93/68/EEC].

In addition, we have arrangements in place to assist clients trying to obtain compliance with North American and Australian equivalent Directives.

A technical file is required to be produced, the contents of which are laid out in the Directive. This file must be kept in the EU by the manufacturer or their authorised representative, and be available for inspection at all times by Market Surveillance Authority officers. The file must be kept for ten years after the last manufacture date of the product.

If there is an accident involving your product, you may have to go to court and defend it. The basis of your defence will be the ‘Technical File’.

A well constructed and accurate technical file is an essential aspect of compliance. In the event of a problem with a product, the technical file is vital.

Manufacturers are not forced to use third party organisations to help them comply. They can buy the relevant standard and associated test equipment , then train a member of their staff to perform the tests and compile the technical file.

We have  accredited test laboratories in the UK, the Netherlands and Italy and plans to extend its scope to include Turkey and possibly China in the near future.  The group is also represented by in-country agents in USA, Japan, Greece, Spain, Brazil and Belgium.
